Having a young child has made me realise how I need to be more strategic with my time. I want to be an engaged father, and while incredibly rewarding, it leaves me with a lot less time to pursue interests in a given day.

Despite this, I continue to read a lot. There’s always more to discover and learn about the world. With this in mind, I want to better chronicle what I discover, both for myself and to perhaps anyone else of an inquisitive tilt.

Why do people avoid news? It’s not just because it makes them feel bad

Some of the latest research on why people are disengaged from the news. I find that this especially interesting coming from a background in publishing, and seeing how disengaged people are in Australia.

A big part of this, is that with the media ever more concentrated, people aren’t seeing themselves in the stories. The narrative just isn’t there for many.

Why we need design systems

Great insight on helping stakeholders understand the increasing importance of design systems in developing digital products.

Two nice bits here:

They enable a quick turn around in seeing working prototypes, and that is key to the agile methodology that so many businesses employ.

So what is at the core of putting out product that improves a business and increases its digital maturity? It is that design systems give the ability to build bridges between disciplines and ensure a collaborative working environment.

The heartache of design at scale

Brad Frost, Dan Mall, and Josh Clark deconstruct the organizational challenges of scaling digital product design and reveal how design systems can unite teams and provide consistency in the face of growing product demands.
